The Endotherapy or trunk injection system

Endotherapy consists of injecting the trunk of the pine tree with an insecticide that is incorporated into the natural sap and reaches the leaves on which the pine processionary pine needle feeds, killing it in a matter of days.

Pine processionary caterpillar endotherapy process - Trunk Injection system

The substances are directly injected to the vascular system of the tree, avoiding atomisation, pulverisation or spraying of chemical products that contaminate the environment, soils and waters. This method also poses no risk to human and animal health. We inject by hand, pampering the pine. We do not use compressed air machinery that can damage the structure of the tree.

At Doctor Pino we apply strict protocols to ensure maximum treatment effectiveness and minimal damage to the plant. After more than 15 years in the tree treatment sector, plant endotherapy has ceased to be an alternative system and has become consolidated as a technique for the control of the pine processionary caterpillar.

After injecting into the pine trunk the amount of abamectin and emulsifier indicated for that particular tree, the product will reach every single leaf of the pine tree within a few days.

The caterpillar is eliminated just as it begins to devour the leaves and it is prevented from reaching its stinging stage, so that hives and other anaphylactic reactions that can occur in humans and animals are avoided.

By carrying out a single plant endotherapy treatment between September and December (depending on the geographical area and climate), the pest is totally controlled, with high effectiveness.

How is endotherapy carried out

Pine processionary caterpillar endotherapy process - Drilling

Drilling

The perimeter of the trunk is drilled approximately every 25-30 cm.

Pine processionary caterpillar endotherapy process - Plug Placement

PLUG PLACEMENT

A special plug is then placed in the hole. This is a catheter that the injection needle will go through, allowing the product to go in and preventing it from leaking out.

Pine processionary caterpillar endotherapy process - Adjustment

Adjustment

Using a nylon hammer and a special positioner, the plug is fixed into the hole made in the tree.

Pine processionary caterpillar endotherapy process - Injection

Injection

Finally, the injection is performed with the selected trunk injection mechanism, inserting the needle into the plug.
